Mary Christensen

Mary Christensen works across painting, printmaking, textiles, and writing. Her practice explores the emotional and cultural transition from girlhood to womanhood, reflecting on memory, feminine identity, and the beauty and ache of being a woman. She is drawn to the tension between questioning expectations and finding comfort in shared experiences around beauty standards, social roles, and growing up within systems she both disagrees with yet feels shaped by.

Christensen is completing a BA in Studio Art with a minor in Sociology at San Francisco State University and previously earned an AA in Art from Santa Rosa Junior College. She has exhibited in Northern California, including at the Fine Arts Gallery, AS Art Gallery, and Martin Wong Gallery at San Francisco State University, as well as Slough City Studios and Aqus Café in Petaluma. Her work has been featured in the 37th and 38th Annual Stillwell Undergraduate Student Exhibitions, where she received Best in Show (2025) and the Walters Printmaking Award (2024).

Her work has been loaned to San Francisco State University, including the University President’s Office and the Dean's Office of the College of Liberal & Creative Arts. Christensen’s writing and artwork have been published in Transfer Literary Magazine and GlassWing Gazette. She is currently interning at Intersection for the Arts and the Associated Students Art Gallery at San Francisco State University, and has completed a public art internship at ArtStart. Christensen has taught art and developed programs at nonprofit organizations, including The Boys and Girls Club and ArtEscape. In addition to her studio practice, she works in public art and mural projects throughout Sonoma County through her business, GlassWing Mural Company.​
